A STAR-STUDDED team led by Scottish rugby hero Kenny Logan has set off on a seven-day, 700-mile, cycling and walking endurance challenge from Murrayfield, Edinburgh to the Stade De France, Paris to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Launching today (Sunday, October 1), the 20-strong team will deliver the Scotland vs Ireland Rugby World Cup match on October 7.
The team of celebrities and fundraisers includes football legend Ally McCoist, The Hobbit and Cold Feet star Jimmy Nesbitt; actor Jamie Bamber, television presenter Kirsty Gallacher; adventurer Jason Fox, and the former Wasps winger’s wife and television star Gabby Logan.
They are aiming to raise £555,000 for Doddie Weir’s charity, The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Weir, who played more than 60 matches for Scotland in the famous number five jersey, died in November 2022 after living with MND for six years.
Starting in Edinburgh, the walk and cycle will see the team of celebs travel from Newcastle to York, and on to Belvoir Castle in Grantham; then to Marlow and Brighton; before taking the ferry overseas to Mont Vernon and onward to the grand finale in Paris ahead of the Scotland vs Ireland match on October 7.

THE LONGEST TRY
RAISING FUNDS FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE
12/08/2023
Twickengham Stadium
The Longest Try is a rugby union charity relay run with clubs submitting runners to cover a 15 mile stretch and link with clubs either side of their route. The event is in support of the MND Association, Gloucester Rugby Foundation in their support of Ed Slater and Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation in celebration of the life of Paul Rendall.
Leicester Tigers and Gloucester rugby second row, Ed Slater, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in July 2022. Paul Rendall, ‘The Judge’, Wasps FC, Slough RFC, Bracknell RFC and England International, was also recently diagnosed and sadly passed away on 13 June.
Winchester RFC kick-off and launch the run on Friday 11 August at 8.00 am at the club with over 30 runners joining in to cover their 15 mile stretch. Winchester RFC will handover to Alton RFC and the ball will be ran to Farnham RFC, Effingham & Leatherhead RFC, Esher RFC, Chobham RFC and Reading RFC as they run their way to Bracknell RFC to finish the relay run Friday night.
The relay run will resume again on Saturday 12 August at 11.00 am with Bracknell RFC and Slough RFC connecting with Wasps FC on their way to Twickenham Stadium. A member from each of Paul Rendall’s clubs will run onto the pitch to score the try at 4.20 pm, just before the England v Wales World Cup warm-up match at 5.30 pm.
Try Scorers: Nick Hoon, Slough RFC, Jack Thompson, Bracknell RFC, Jon Radford, Wasps FC
The MND Association said “The rugby community is a force to be reckoned with and it is invaluable to have them standing with us as we work together to defeat this devasting disease. MND is incredibly cruel and robs people of the ability to walk, talk, eat, and ultimately breathe. Unfortunately, there is no cure and no effective treatment.
