Pete Jenkins is a photographer based in Nottingham in the East Midlands of the United Kingdom. A Fleet Street veteran his work has included sport, featured for newspapers and more recently conferences and events. During more than forty years as a professional photographer he has worked with many organisations, but is probably best known for his work for Trade Unions and ‘back-in-the-day’ as one of the most prolific photographers of English Club Rugby.

Paul Drabble - re Pete Jenkins

“Pete is a Specialist Conference and Event Photographer however his abilities to get the best out of a very broad spectrum of people, combined with the vast experience he has amassed over 30+ years makes him so much more than only a specialist conference and events photographer. While Pete is everything you would expect from a professional photographer it is much better to think of him as a Photographic consultant, not only able to produce top quality images but also able to advise you on how to ensure you get the very best images. Widely liked and admired by his peers Peter is also very generous, offering advice and mentoring to other photographers in the industry who seek his help. I have first hand experience of Pete’s mentoring both on a 1 to 1 basis and having taken part in his Essential Marketing for Professional Photographers workshops and I can honestly say Pete really does know his stuff.”

Sarah Washbourn - re Pete Jenkins

“Pete Jenkins – what a genuinely nice and generous chap. I had seen his name pop-up on various Facebook groups over the years but it was only this year I got to meet him after attending one of his pull up a chair events. I’ve been a freelance photographer for a few years and when i hit a quiet spell I decided to get in touch. His help before, during and after the event has been priceless. Not only is Pete an outstanding photographer but he now shares his experience by mentoring fellow photographers using what he has learnt over the years and for a very nominal fee. He’s almost there 24hours a day to help. He’s not offering an overnight fix and if you come up with a marketing idea that looks or sounds rubbish then he will be very blunt and tell you. Thanks so much Pete”

John Robertson - re Pete Jenkins

“Not only a first-rate photographer with many years of experience and a proven track record, but Pete is also that rare thing- a really humble, very helpful and thoroughly nice chap! He helped me with my marketing and has also boosted my self-esteem as a result of that. You will not find a better ‘people person’ and Pete has always answered my numerous questions with patience, a great sense of humour, wisdom and sage advice. Very highly recommended!”

Jeremy Bayston - Sunday Times

Pete Jenkins and I go back a long way – a time when newspapers had money and photographers had to know a lot more than just how to press a button. I was at the sports Picture Editor at the Sunday Times, and he was always my first call when I was looking for good rugby pictures, particularly club action. Pete, as well as running his company, seemed to be able to be everywhere, and covering every game. And his knowledge of players and clubs was immense. And he always managed to pull a picture of a player out of the bag for me, no matter how obscure. His pictures capture some great moments and some legendary players. I am really looking forward to seeing his shots in the Back of a Motorbike feed”

Jeremy Bayston – Sunday Times

Tim Bishop - Sunday Telegraph

“For all my years working as the deputy Picture Editor at The Sunday Telegraph, Pete Jenkins was rugby. As far as rugby was concerned he ticked that box for all our photographic coverage, sometimes the big matches, sometimes smaller local games that our readers always wanted covered. His archive must be unique, a collection of the national, international, the special, the celebrated and the long forgotten, a record of the great sport photographed by someone who really knew what he was doing, who loved the game, and loved his photography. What a treasure trove it will be!”

Tim Bishop – Deputy Picture Editor Sunday Telegraph

Harvey Thorneycroft - Former Northampton Saints Rugby Player

“In the height of lock down a photograph that I had never seen before was sent to me by Pete Jenkins which brighten my spirits. You see it was a picture of the Barbarians playing Swansea in 1992, at a time when you would receive an invitation from Mickey Steele Bodger, reading “The Barbarian Football Club, the president and the committee have the pleasure in inviting H Thorneycroft to play for the Barbarians on the Easter Tour 1992.” The squad would be published in the national broadsheets what an honour.

I didn’t know that a fleet street photographer, ‘On the Back of a Motorbike’ was there that day capturing a memory for me that I would later see 28 years on. This is the beauty of what Pete has got in his private collection of over 50,000 images, memories of a time forgotten, when we didn’t have digital photographs and he would physically have to print shots that would appear in the broadsheets from the negatives.

He was one of the only photographers that didn’t sell his private collection to Getty and the like. I have for the last four months helped him identify players from 1985-2000. He has taken the plunge and decided to catalogue his collection and make it available for those who are interested and would like to purchase a small part of history and for that I am eternally grateful.

Thank you, Pete.”

Harvey Thorneycroft – Former Northampton Saints Player

Brian Harris RIP - Times and Independent

“Pete Jenkins has produced one of the most comprehensive libraries of Rugby Union photographs in the world. Every frame from when he started in the 1980’s is fully captioned with names of the players and full match details including dates and locations. This site is a labour of love and really easy to navigate, so important when there are so many images to look through.

Pete’s photographs cover the action, training, celebrations and group shots…he gets in close and personal showing the true grit and determination of those on the field of play like no other producing a truly unique coverage of this wonderful game.”

Di Peasey - re photo repair

“Just let you know my brother really liked the photo album and the pictures of the European tour and sledging. Many thanks for your hard work.”

Roger Askew - Pull up a Chair

“I went last week and would thoroughly recommend this Marketing Basics for Professional Photographers seminar to anyone even if you have to travel a bit. Pete and Cath are both excellent trainers, and lovely people to boot.”

Roger Askew (Berkshire/Oxfordshire Headshot and event Photographer)

John Robertson - Pull up a chair

“Lovely to meet Pete again today at his new marketing seminar for photographers. Made several new mates and learned a LOT of interesting new stuff….

If you missed it, Pete and Cath are planning more of the same-coming to you soon!
Don’t miss it is my advice because there are lots of sheissters out there promising all sorts of undeliverable things. They are keen to part you from your money.

Pete has been there, done that. He knows the score. The advice you will receive is current, relevant and worth paying much more for than his very reasonable admission prices. Most professional photographers, (the proper ones, not the pretend ‘do a job for a mate’ ones), love what they do but are a bit like I was….clueless numpties at the business side of things , at getting new clients and at getting paid what they are worth for their skills, creativity and experience.

Cath is a very sensible marketing lady- best I’ve met to date and I’ve met many such people. She understands photographers and that is pretty unusual these days when most marketing people think we are some kind of sub-species of human being!

If there is a Pete and Cath seminar near you, then my advice is to clear your diary, buy a ticket and make a space for the experience. In my opinion it’s money well spent, (and tax deductible as well!!)”

Paul Drabble re - Pull up a chair

“Massive Thank You to Pete Jenkins and Cath Preston for all their hard work on the Marketing Basics for Professional Photographers Seminar in Nottingham I attended on Wednesday. Learnt some great key skills around networking, networking meetings, specialisation, positioning yourself in the market, not joining the race for the bottom, correct use of LinkedIn even touched on GDPR. It was also a great opportunity to meet face to face with John Robertson and Roger Askew. The Chilli & Rice lunch was a winner too. All I can say is if you didn’t go you really did miss out. #networking #photography #communication”

Paul David Drabble (Sheffield based, PR Photographer)

Mann Hans - re Mentoring

“For me Pete Jenkins’s qualities go beyond the photography. His excellent knowledge of marketing and business and mentoring make him an ideal collaborator. I would highly recommend Pete.”

Mann Hans (Event and Portrait Photographer)

Joanna Broughton - re Guest Seminar

“Pete has recently delivered a masterclass at the Global Success Syndicate (business support and networking group for women). He wowed us with great tips on how to get the best pictures from our phone-cameras to use on our social media, marketing etc. The session was highly interactive, and we all had a chance to see the difference between the point and press approach and a more considered application of the top tips he’d plied us with. We were amazed at the difference it made knowing this stuff. We were amazed at how much goes into getting great pictures. Pete knows his photographic onions and I would heartily recommend that, if you get the chance and you are in need of some picture-pointers, you get yourself into one of Pete’s audiences. Thank you so much, Pete. Hopefully, there will be a few less crimes of the camera on social media now, because of your sterling work with us!”
